Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry was started in 2005. To date we have given over 500 prayer shawls to individuals who are homebound, seriously or terminally ill, or experiencing grief, stress or other difficult situations in their lives. We currently have shawls made, blessed by our Pastor and ready to be given. These shawls are available in the St. Anthony Commons by the main office or at the request of our parishioners to give to someone they know who is in need of prayer, comfort, encouragement and support due to the aforementioned circumstances. By request, a member of our ministry will personally deliver the shawl to the recipient to let them know that we care about them and that they are in our prayers. They may also be delivered by the requester.

Parishioners are invited to join us in this Prayer Shawl Ministry. We meet in the St. Mary’s Room for about one hour at 1:00pm on the first Thursday of the month from September through May. We say a special prayer and a rosary for all future, current and past recipients. ICCW furnishes the yarn and a pattern, or you may use a pattern of your choice for either knitting or crocheting. We request that you bring your own knitting needles or crochet hook in the size appropriate for the pattern. We do provide a guideline for the approximate size of the shawl. If you neither knit nor crochet, but wish to join us, we can always use your help to add fringe, write cards to be given with each shawl, package the shawl for delivery, or deliver the shawl. We also welcome your presence to pray and socialize with us.

To request a shawl, you may contact either Ann Carlson at 320-629-8969, Sue Rothenbacher at 320-629-8940, or call the parish office at 320-629-2935. We ask that you provide the name of the intended recipient and a brief explanation of their circumstances so that we are able to write an appropriate card to be given along with the shawl.
